Superintendent's Message...
(as printed in Back to School Communicator)

Each new year brings changes, and this year is no exception. We are very excited about our newest campus, Taylor High School. The last time Alief ISD opened the doors to a new full-sized high school was in 1981, when construction on Elsik High School was completed. That was 20 years ago! This is a beautiful facility—another source of pride for the district and the community. Principal Manette Schaller and her staff have been hard at work getting everything ready for the start of school. Taylor students and parents will get to tour the campus for the first time on Aug. 11 during open house. In addition to the new staff members at Taylor, we have a number of new faces throughout the district. By the time school starts, nearly 600 employees will have been hired for the 2001-2002 school year. We welcome them to a team of highly qualified and dedicated personnel. One thing that remains constant each year in our school district is the outpouring of support by parents, community members and business partners. We believe that the entire community has a stake in the improvement of public education, and there are many opportunities for everyone to get involved. Parents, I encourage you to visit your child’s school, stay in touch with the teachers, and let them know that you support school activities. Business and community members, I support your efforts to partner with our schools. You impact the academic achievement and personal growth of all Alief students with your contributions of time, human resources and financial assistance.
Thank you for your commitment and dedication to the students of this district. Working together, we can provide the exemplary education promised by our mission statement.
